👉 αβακ – ‘byssus, fine linen’ (LXX: 1 Chr. 4.21).
🅔 A transliteration of the Biblical Hebrew form habbuṣ, i.e. bûṣ/buṣ ‘byssus, fine linen’ with the definite article ha-. Elsewhere, the Hebrew bûṣ/buṣ was translated into Greek as βύσσος (LXX: 2 Chr. 2.13, 3.14), βύσσινος (1 Chr. 15.27, Es. 1.6 and 8.15) or στολαὶ βύσσιναι (2 Chr. 5.12). Concerning the phonetics, it is surprising that -α- stands for -u- (-û-) and that κ renders ṣ. Cf. βύσσος.
