👉 αιλ – ‘pillar’ (LXX: Ez. 40.48, 41.3), αιλαμ ‘pillar(s)’ (LXX: Ez. 40.10, 16, 49), αιλευ (vv.ll. αιλεου, ελευ, ελεου) ‘its pillars’ (LXX: Ez. 40.9, 21, 24, etc.), αιλαμμω (vv.ll. αιλαμμωθ, αιλαμμων) ‘pillars’ (LXX: Ez. 40.38).
🅔 The word αιλ is a transliteration of the Biblical Hebrew noun ʾayil (construct state forms: ʾêl and ʾēl) ‘pillar’. The form αιλαμ goes back either to ʾayil ‘pillar’ or, much more often, to ʾêlîm ‘pillars’ (influenced by αιλαμ ‘porch’; see αιλαμ 1), αιλαμμω stand for ʾêlîm ‘pillars’ (as a result of confusion with αιλαμμω ‘its proch’; see αιλαμ 1), whereas αιλευ is a plural form with a suffixed pronoun (3rd sg. m.), i.e. Hebrew ʾêlāyw ‘its pillars’.
