ἀττάλη <Phrygian; Early Byzantine period>

👉 ἀττάλη – a Phrygian gloss with the meaning of φόρυξις perh. ‘defilement’ (Hsch α 8184); the word φόρυξις (cj.; ms.: φάρυξις) is not attested elsewhere; cf. φορύσσω ‘to defile, to stain; to mix’. Cf. ἀτταλαγόω ‘to stain, to defile’ (Hsch. α 8179).

  Hsch. α 8184: ἀττάλη· φόρυξις, ὑπὸ Φρυγῶν – “attalē: defilement, (called so) by Phrygians”.
