αἰθωπί <Egyptian; Roman period>

👉 αἰθωπί (vv.ll. ἐθωπι, αἰθοπι, αἰθοφι) – an Egyptian gloss with the meaning of γαλήοψις ‘brownwort (Scrofularia peregrina L.)’ (Dsc. 4.94 RV).

Dsc. 4.94 RV: γαλήοψις (ed.: γαλέοψις)· (...) Αἰγύπτιοι αἰθωπί (...). – “Galēopsis (bramble): (...) the Egyptians (call it) aithōpi (...)”.
