ἀγωφιτεβεωκί <Egyptian; Roman period>
👉 ἀγωφιτεβεωκί (vv.ll. ἀρφιτεβεώκη, ἀγοφιτεβεώκη, ἀφοιτεβεώκη) – an Egyptian gloss with the meaning of πεντάφυλλον ‘creeping cinquefoil (Potentilla reptans L.)’ (Dsc. 4.42 RV).
⚠ Dsc. 4.42 RV: πεντάφυλλον· (...) Αἰγύπτιοι ἀγωφιτεβεωκί (...). – “Pentaphyllon (creeping cinquefoil): (...) the Egyptians (call it) agōphitebeōki (...)”. Cf. the Egyptian glosses in Ps.-Apul., Herb. 2: asufi (v.l. disufi) ‘id.’ and thebeoti (v.l. thebeuti) ‘id.’.
🅔 An Egyptian word without etymology. Note that ἀγωφιτεβεωκί occurs as two different names in Pseudo-Apuleius.
