ἀρφύτνον <Anatolian; Early Byzantine period>

👉 ἀρφύτνον – ‘a Lydian gloss with the meaning of δίσκος ‘discus’ (Hsch. α 7569).

Hsch. α 7569: ἀρφύτνον· ὁ δίσκος, ὑπὸ Λυδῶν – “arphytnon: discus, (called so) by Lydians”.

🅔 A Lydian word without etymology. A juxtaposition with Hittite ḫarp- ‘to separate and (re)associate oneself, to change allegiance; to join with; etc.’ is semantically unsatisfactory.
