αβαρκηνιν <Semitic; Hellenistic period>
👉 αβαρκηνιν – ‘the thorny plants, the briars’ (LXX: Judic.B 8.7), also βαρκοννιμ (LXX: Judic.A 8.7) and βαρακηνιμ (LXX: Judic. 8.16).
🅔 All three forms are transliterations of the Biblical Hebrew plural form barqŏnîm of the noun barqōn ‘thorny plant, briar’ (attested only in the plural); the initial α- in αβαρκηνιν goes back to the definite article ha- (BH: Judic. 9.7 and 8.16 has habbarqŏnîm). In the case of βαρκοννιμ, the Greek vocalisation is equal to the Masoretic one, whereas the forms αβαρκηνιν and βαρακηνιμ differ from it slightly. Interestingly, the plural ending -ιν in αβαρκηνιν is Aramaic (-în).
