LEXICON OF ORIENTAL WORDS IN ANCIENT GREEK

αμαφεθ <Semitic; Hellenistic period>

👉 αμαφεθ – ‘the threshold’ (LXX: 1 Sam. 5.4).

🅔 A transliteration of the Biblical Hebrew form hammip̄tān, i.e. mip̄tān ‘threshold’ with the definite article ha-. However, the transliteration is incomplete (we would expect *αμαφεθαν); note also the difference in vocalisation: Masoretic -i- vs. Greek -α-.
