ἀσαραφί <Egyptian; Roman period>

👉 ἀσαραφί (vv.ll ἀσαραφη, ἀσαρηφί, ἀσαφιφή) – an Egyptian gloss with the meaning of ἅλιμος ‘tree purslane (Atriplex halimus L.)’ (Dsc. 1.91 RV).

Dsc. 1.91 RV: ἅλιμος· (...) Αἰγύπτιοι ἀσφοιί, οἱ δὲ ἀσοντηρί, οἱ δὲ ἀσελλοηρί, οἱ δὲ ἀσαραφί (...). – “Halimos (tree purslane): (...) the Egyptians (call it) asphoii or asontēri or aselloēri or asaraphi (...)”. Cf. ἀσελλοηρί, ἀσοντηρί and ἀσφοιί.
