👉 ἀφόν – an Egyptian gloss with the meaning of σκόρδιον ‘garlic germander (Teucrium scordium L.)’ (Dsc. 3.111 RV).

Dsc. 3.111 RV: σκόρδιον· (...) Αἰγύπτιοι ἀφόν (...). – “Skordion (garlic germander): (...) the Egyptians (call it) aphon (...)”.

🅔 An Egyptian word without etymology. Cf. an old hypothesis: from the Egyptian ꜥfꜣ ‘a plant’, perh. ‘yellow melilot (Melilotus officinalis L.)’.
